Hands Scans

After some research I decided to create some Scanography work with my hands and arms. Taking inspirations from Liz Atkin and Jenny Saville I wanted to make some abstract but detailed images. Since starting this project one of the things I really wanted to focus on was my hands. They are such an important part of my body but at the same time they are the cause of a lot of pain and stress. My hands are covered in bad eczema and I really wanted to focus on that and how it makes me feel. I wanted some detailed images of my dry skin and I also wanted to experiment with the medium of scanography and creating distorted images.

Some of the images worked really well. Images, 688, 691 and 697 particularly stood out to me as images that really represent the frustration I feel with my eczema on a daily basis. Other images, such as 673,675, 676 and 684 didnt work as well. I wanted to show the jewellery I wear everyday on my hands (My engagement ring, another ring from my fiance and one I saved up and bought myself) but they are too small in the frame and its not possible to see them in enough detail. Images such as 673 and 684 also didnt work as you can see my bracelet and jumper in the shot. I feel like the image would be more effective if it was just my bare skin on show.

I really wanted to continue to photography my hands and other body parts in detail. I also want to experiment with taking more abstract photographs.
